Imbolc—the feast of Brigid, Celtic goddess and Catholic saint—marks the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox. It is the season of subtle beginnings: ewes begin to lamb, sunlight softens the snow on the south sides of buildings, and we glimpse the first signs of early Spring - snowdrops, crocus buds, perhaps even daffodil tips showing green.
Brigid is the keeper of the hearth and the eternal flame. After being well-used over the winter months, house and hearth are due a thorough cleaning. To honor the first spring and the feast of St. Brigid, let’s gather and celebrate as the ancient ones did. Clearing out the ashes of the long winter nights and sweeping clean the hearth to make room for warmer days and more light. To clear our own hearth, we will craft dried-flower and herb whisk brooms to hang in our kitchens—the modern-day hearth.
Cost: $50 (includes broom-making materials and hands-on instructions)
Space is limited to 13 participants—please register soon.
